Mary Joan White Carter

December 28, 1919 — May 2, 2017

CARTER-Mary Joan White Carter, age 97, of Aiken, S.C., wife of the late Lewis W. Carter and daughter of the late James L. White and the late Eutokia Jane Mitchell White answered God’s call and went to be with her Lord and Savior at her residence with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She is survived by a son, Ron (Regina) Carter of North Augusta, S.C.; daughters, Kathy (Dan) Shreves of North Augusta, S.C., Loutricia (Johnny) Stephens of Greenwood, S.C. and Joyce (Wayne) Hunter of Sumter, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Carter of Aiken, S.C.; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rick Carter. She was born in Henderson, TN. but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. She was a dedicated member of Bath Baptist Church. She was a former Sunday School teacher and WMU Director. She loved her family and her Lord with all her heart. She referred to her Lord as her “Precious Jesus.” She was very mission minded and would do anything for anybody. During her younger days, she would open her home to the less fortunate. She was a loving and devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, working with crafts and traveling. In summation, she was a precious and sweet Godly woman, who loved everybody and everybody in turn loved her. She was known by nieces and nephews as Aunt Jo, and she was a mother to a few and “Mamaw” to all. A woman of her many good traits shall be greatly missed by her family, many friends and of course, by her faithful little pet dog, “Buddy”. Earth’s loss is truly Heaven’s gain. The family will receive friends this Thursday evening, May 4th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. A service, celebrating her life and homegoing, will be held at Bath First Baptist Church Friday, May 5, 2017 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Herb Sons and Rev. Ronnie Duncan officiating. The interment will be at Southlawn Cemetery in Aiken. The Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad and Brint Boatwright, John, Chris and Travis Stephens, David Hunter and great grandson, Evan Boatwright. Honorary Pallbearers will be great grandsons, Nathan Boatwright, Adrian Scranton and Blake Stephens. Memorials may be made to Bath First Baptist Church Soloman’s Project, P. O. Box 240, Bath, S.C. 29816. Napier Funeral Home Inc., 315 Main St., Graniteville, S.C. 29829, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
