Jean C. Boyd

August 13, 1931 — June 1, 2022

Jean Clark Boyd, 90, wife of the late Clifton Lester Boyd, went home to her heavenly Father and beloved husband June 1, 2022.  Jean was born August 13, 1931, in Aiken, SC, to Mahlon Ray Clark and Mae Bodie Clark and was a graduate of Aiken High School.  She and Lester spent most of their lives in Graniteville, SC, a community they loved serving.  During their early years of marriage, Jean worked in the research department of Graniteville Company until she became a full-time homemaker, caring for their children.  She is survived by a son Dr. C. Clark Boyd and a daughter Leslie B. Gunter, both of Graniteville; grandsons Andrew (Lisa) Gunter of Madison, MS, and Zachary (Amanda) Gunter of Martinez, GA; and great-grandsons Judah Gunter and Asher Gunter of Madison, MS.

Additional survivors include her sisters Thelma (the late Jack) Duncan of Aiken and Rachel (the late Bostick) Chavous of Augusta, GA; brother Sidney (Myrtle) Clark of Aiken; sisters-in-law Grace (the late William) Clark of Tacoma, WA, and Shirley (Kyle) Corley of Graniteville; and many loving nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother William Clark, and son-in-law Russell Gunter.

For nearly four years Mrs. Boyd was a resident of Shadow Oaks Assisted Living Community, where the staff loved and cared for her well.  Clark and Leslie are very grateful for the nursing and support staff there, as well as Regency Hospice nursing staff members who gave such compassionate care to their mother in recent months.  Mrs. Boyd faithfully served her Lord Jesus and even in her final years shared her confidence in His love through hymns and other words of encouragement with visitors and those in her community.  Her recent favorite hymn was “Blessed Assurance!”

A service celebrating Mrs. Boyd’s life will be held Monday, June 6, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Graniteville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Bill Gustafson of North Augusta Bible Chapel will officiate, and burial will follow in the historic Graniteville Cemetery.  Pall bearers will be Mrs. Boyd’s nephews Jackie Duncan, John Clark, Russell Boyd, Dr. Richard Boyd, Christopher Corley, and Kenny Joe Boyd.

In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to make memorial donations to Gideons International, which distributes free copies of the Bible around the world.  Napier Funeral Home, Inc. 315 Main St. Graniteville SC, has been entrusted with these arrangements.
